Taco Tuesday

What It Is

Taco Tuesday is a recipe manager and meal planner for home cooks. It keeps recipes, meal plans, and the grocery list in one place — so figuring out what to cook is a little less work. It runs as a full web app and as a native iPhone app on the App Store.

The Problem

Most households cook from a mix of bookmarked websites, screenshots, cookbooks, and a box of handwritten cards. Planning the week means flipping between all of them, then rebuilding the grocery list by hand. Existing recipe apps solve pieces of this, but few of them are pleasant to use while actually standing at the stove.

Taco Tuesday was designed first — with the bet that a carefully crafted, genuinely enjoyable app is the thing that gets people to keep using it.

What It Does

  • Clip recipes from anywhere — paste a link from almost any recipe site, share straight from Safari, or scan a handwritten card or magazine page. Ingredients, steps, and photos come in automatically.
  • Plan the week — drop recipes onto days and meals in a few taps, or use Quick Add for the off-the-cuff nights. Land a taco recipe on a Tuesday and the app throws a taco-confetti celebration.
  • One grocery list, every store — pull every ingredient from a range of planned meals onto the list, scaled to servings, grouped by aisle, and split across the stores you actually shop at.
  • Cooking mode — a full-screen, step-by-step view that highlights the ingredients for each step, with built-in timers and hands-free voice control.
  • Share with the household — recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists are shared with everyone at home, and any recipe can be shared publicly with a link.

On iPhone, it goes further with Home Screen widgets, Siri shortcuts for “what’s for dinner?”, and barcode scanning for grocery items.

Built For Everyone

The web and iOS apps are built to mirror each other feature for feature, so a household can plan on a laptop and cook from a phone without missing anything. Both meet the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard — full keyboard and VoiceOver support, readable contrast, and layouts that hold up from the smallest phone to a desktop monitor.

Under the Hood

The web app is built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS and hosted on Vercel. The iPhone app is written natively in SwiftUI. Both share a Supabase backend (Postgres, authentication, and file storage), with row-level security keeping each household’s data private. Recipe import uses AI to turn messy web pages and photos into clean, structured recipes, and subscriptions run through the App Store.

Status

Live and actively developed. Taco Tuesday is available on the web and on the App Store, with a free 21-day trial.
